Soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves, tissues. Soft tissue injuries are the most common injury in sport. Soft tissue refers to tissues that connect, support, or surround other structures and organs of the body.

Dry Needling is often applied to muscles with trigger points, alleviating the trigger point itself and the taught band associated with it.  There are a number of Dry Needling techniques that can be used to alter the state of the tissue; hence the technique will vary according to your presentation.

Also known as myofascial trigger point dry needling, is an alternative medicine technique similar to acupuncture. It involves the use of either solid filiform needles or hollow-core hypodermic needles for therapy of muscle pain, including pain related to myofascial pain syndrome. Dry needling is mainly used to treat myofascial trigger points, but it is also used to target connective tissue, neural ailments, and muscular ailments. It is a technique used to treat dysfunction of skeletal muscle and connective tissue, minimize peripheral nociception (pain), and improve or regulate structural or functional damage.


IASTM is a process in which the therapist uses a set of hand held instruments to break down thickened collagen fibres (scar tissue) and fascial restrictions in soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and nerves).

Once the damaged areas are detected through thorough assessment and palpation, the instruments are used to deliver a controlled amount of microtrauma to the affected area. The purpose of the microtrauma is to stimulate a local inflammatory response which initiates the reabsorption of excessive scar tissue and facilitates a cascade effect of healing activity. Adhesions within the soft tissue that may have developed because of surgery, immobilisation or repetitive strain, are broken down, thus allowing the client to regain function and improved motor control.

What will your running gait analysis involve?

We will first discuss your injury history, training routine and goals. Then capture high definition video footage of your running form and analyse the footage. From here we will then go through a range of drills and techniques dealing with everything from foot strike to posture. At the end we will then capture another video recording of your running gait after correction. Then using a split screen make a simultaneous ‘before and after’ comparison. Since most people are visual learners, we have found this method to be very effective. Depending on the outcome of the gait analysis, we might recommend training sessions, strength and flexibility screening or manual therapy.

If you have a specific pair of running shoes, we would ask that you bring them with you as this will assist with our assessment. 

We will go into a lot of detail around shoes and the benefits of the right pair. It is possible to run with good technique in any kind of shoe, but the right pair can promote better running and potentially reduce your risk of injury.



Gait analysis is the systematic study of human motion and is used to assess the way we walk or run to highlight biomechanical abnormalities. Biomechanical problems are usually caused by muscular imbalances (tight muscles working against weak muscles), although they can sometimes be caused by structural problems, such as leg length discrepancies resulting in hip hiking.

Many injuries are often caused, at least in part, by poor biomechanics. Runners and athletes whose sports require a high level of running and jumping should make sure they have had a gait analysis and buy the correct footwear to avoid future overuse injuries.


Human foot function is an engineering marvel—26 bones connected by a ridiculous amount of connective tissue to make 33 joints, along with 20 intrinsic muscles and 13 extrinsic muscles. All designed to work seamlessly as a team to carry us for thousands upon thousands of steps each and every day.

The moment we learn to walk as children, our feet are wrapped up into a pair of shoes. This is the start of a life-long struggle for your feet. The majority of shoes today are designed more for fashion over function.

The two biggest flaws that shoes have are the size of the toe box (where your toes sit) and the heel pitch. Over time as your feet are squashed into a shoe that doesn’t actually look like a foot, your toes start to adapt to the lack of space and cause all kinds of problems such as: foot pain; lack of balance; loss of proprioception; rolled ankles; plantar fasciitis etc, and this is only pain associated with the feet.

Your feet are your body’s foundation and connection to the ground. Without these structures working efficiently, everything else above the feet will be compromised in some way.


For example, if you are wearing a high heel of any size, your centre of mass is shifted forward so your body then has to compensate by shifting other parts of your body to maintain balance, resulting in excess muscle fatigue and strain.


To rebuild your feet, we need to recreate the connection between your feet and the brain as it has been lost through years of wearing shoes. We will establish some motor control of the foot and ankle whilst also going through some simple mobility drills to
keep your feet fresh and nimble.


Kinesio, Rigid or Functional Fascial taping method is a definitive rehabilitation taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.


Cupping is a method of treating soft tissue due to a build up of local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in a cupping jar, usually by means of heat, which is then applied directly to the skin. The underlying tissue is drawn up into the jar forming an area of blood stasis. This appears to bruise the area, or at least turn it a bright red. The amount of dark red or purple blood drawn to the surface indicates the degree of stagnation. Dark blood is a sign of stagnation which often means that high amounts of toxins is present in the blood.

Cupping can also be used to help restore range of motion through a series of functional movement techniques.




Movement is Medicine!

The combination of treatment with movement is your best bet for ongoing results. The work really starts when you are out of pain.

We have also noticed now that not all pain can be helped through physical therapy. A lot can come down to the way you move or the lack of movement. We need to take a look at your everyday positions and postures because a simple position you habitual go to could be causing all of your problems.

These poor positions can be changed and then trained and strengthened to make sure they never come back.
