There Is No Such Thing As Bad Posture!

Posture Isn’t the Problem—Stillness Is
Humans are designed to move—in every direction, through every joint, at every range.
We create all kinds of wild postures and positions because our tissues are adaptable and complex. Muscles are made to move through their full range.
Struggling to sit in a deep squat? That’s not a limitation—it’s a lack of exposure.
Look at many Asian cultures where squatting is a part of daily life—they work, eat, and socialise in that position. Their bodies adapted to it because they use it often.
The Modern Default: Desk Jockey Posture
The most common posture we see today? The seated, screen-slouched, forward-head desk posture.
Humans weren’t built to sit 8+ hours a day. But that’s exactly what most of us do:
Sit to eat
Sit to drive
Sit to work
Sit to relax
Standing up at work? You’re the weirdo. That’s the culture.
So Is Sitting "Bad" Posture?
Not inherently. Posture only becomes problematic when it’s the only shape your body holds.
Your body adapts to what you do most. If you spend most of your life sitting, your nervous system builds strength and stability around that pattern. Great for sitting—not so great for lifting your kid, running, or squatting.
Move More, Not Perfectly
Want better function?
Don’t chase the perfect posture.
Chase variety. Explore your joints. Get into positions you haven’t been in for a while. If something feels uncomfortable, good—you found a weakness to work on.
Try this: Sit on the floor while watching TV. You’ll naturally shift around more, fidget, and adjust—exactly what your body needs. Sitting still in a chair locks you into one shape. Floor sitting demands mobility.
Pain Is a Request to Move
Pain is often just your brain saying:
“Hey… can we change this up?”
But most people ignore that signal, pop a painkiller, and keep sitting the same way.
Change the input. Move the body. See what changes.
Final Word
Still chasing "perfect" posture? Let it go.
At Melbourne Soft Tissue Therapy, we help you build adaptability, resilience, and real-world movement capacity—not stiffness masked as good posture.
